On the way to self-leadership, it is important to address the importance of personal development. It all starts with being dissatisfied with the state of things. There is no one alive who can claim to be a finished product. We are all in the works. Personally, I'm not where I used to be, but I'm certainly not anywhere near where I should be as far as everything that I can be. It takes humility and honesty to admit that you are not "all that" and you are not "everything there". We have good intentions and sometimes the right motivation, but that alone is not good enough. There must be a willingness to do the work necessary to achieve the goal. It is wishful thinking to imagine that you can change anything important without improving yourself. Let's look at some areas that need work.
- "Soliloquy" (positive or negative things that you keep saying)
- "Self-image" (as you see yourself)
- Self-motivation (what drives you).
- "Self-discipline" (reluctance to be strict with yourself)
All of this is part of the self-management puzzle and when they come together life just becomes beautiful. Sometimes the desire for change and development may be strong, but what if the obstacles and reality speak louder than the desire you have? It is not advisable to continue without knowing exactly what you are dealing with. Let's identify some obstacles that need to be overcome to start the self-development process:
- Unwillingness to change - "I'm adjusted to my way"
- The power of the past - "It's hard to say goodbye to yesterday"
- An inflexible mindset - "I've always done it this way"
- Associations - "I can't let go of some of my old associations"
- An idle mind - "It's too much work; I have the right to be lazy"
I urge you to conduct a self-assessment based on the five areas mentioned above. Depending on your particular instance, there may be more. You will find that you need a change, especially in the mind. This is the "battlefield" where most wars take place. Wherever the spirit goes, the man follows! There are ready-made ideas, attitudes, habits and negative associations that have to go. If you are satisfied, you may not need to make any changes. If you do not like the processes or the results achieved, you can change them at any time. It starts with deciding to become someone you've never seen before. Albert Einstein said: "We cannot solve problems with the same mindset that we used to create them." Do not wait for the next year to change your thinking. The time for changes is NOW!
We live in a time when a lot is learned. It is possible to learn all new skills and even spend a fortune without achieving results. Learning new knowledge without a new mind is like putting new wine in old wine bowls. Change your thinking!
If you solve the thought problem, you are ready for a real transformation. Personal development does not happen by itself. Physical growth is inevitable; personal growth requires decisive measures. If you don't grow, you cannot grow to size. What skills will you acquire to remain relevant in the area you have chosen? Thanks to free online courses, many of which are offered, it is now easy to become "self-taught". Ivy League universities like Harvard, Preston, for example, have resources on their websites that are easily accessible. On YouTube, we can learn practically anything by spending just 30 minutes a day on tutorials. You can read at least one book a month. It's time to grow!
I remember when we tried to develop different concepts for an advertising campaign. We seemed to be stuck and no creative ideas came to mind. At this point, the director asked everyone to stop and search online for "stimulus," that is, exposing themselves to different concepts to stimulate the mind. What does this have to do with self-development? You need the right environment, the right exposure to promote your pursuit of improvement. A child who grew up in a poor home in a poor neighborhood will never strive for anything else until the exposure sees that it is possible to create another, better reality. Protect your surroundings jealously; The people, places and ideas you expose yourself to are important. There are many good inspirational films
